The Committee

The Committee for this year's conference will be the United Nations Human Rights Council, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly on 15 March 2006.

The 47-seat Human Rights Council replaced the former 53-member Commission on Human Rights. The Commission was an independent body, but the Council has been elevated to the status of a subsidiary body of the General Assembly. Topics

Topic 1: Measures, including the financial resources, to prevent the unlawful imprisonment of terror suspects;

Topic 2: Measures to improve the status of women and children in areas affected by the War on Terror;

Topic 3: Measures to prevent nation states from subduing minorities based on terror charges;

You are asked to do research on all three topics. Furthermore, you have to prepare a working paper on one of the topics. Which topic to choose is entirely up to you.

During the first two days of the conference, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other delegates who have covered the same topic. The idea is that you put the best points from your working papers into one draft resolution which can then be discussed in the committee.
